Cill Rialaig Arts Centre welcomes you to ‘Artist in Craft’…

Come and visit our fantastic exhibition ‘Artist in Craft’ which showcases Ireland’s 12 top makers now! This exhibition highlights Ireland’s Leading Glass, Ceramic and Wood working artists in furniture and sculpture.

It opened on Saturday 3rd June 2017 by John Tynan, Head of Education, Training & Development and will run until the end of July. It showcases famous artists such as Anne Butler, Magda Bethani in ceramics, Emmet Kane,  Alan Meredith and Zelouf and Bell in wood wonders(!) and Roisin de Buitlear and Sinead Brennan in glass  some shown here.

Róisín de Buitléar

BORN IN DUBLIN, Róisín de Buitléar is an artist and educator who has been working in the medium of glass as a primary material since 1983. She has completed many site-specific installations of blown and cast work, drawing her inspiration from her cultural heritage as can be viewed in the piece displayed here in Cill Rialaig Arts Centre. This unusual piece highlights the way in which she works in layers, using the inherent beauty of the material to draw the viewer into the piece through light, shadow and colour. At the core of this work are stories of her culture that are told using pattern, colour, form and the characteristics of the material. These stories are important to de Buitléar to explain and share with viewers through the medium of her works.

Alan Meredith

Alan began working with wood from an early age. His work to date straddles the boundaries of contemporary craft, sculpture and architecture as can be seen in this work. Alan’s creative approach is tied closely to his intimate understanding of wood and a desire to work directly with a given material when making a design. His intention is to make appropriate and meaningful decisions based on this more sympathetic understanding of material and the means by which it may be manipulated.

‘Vinicular Table’ which is made from ebonised oak and oil demonstrates Meredith’s ability to manipulate the wood in creating this unusual art piece, similarly to his other art works on view in Cill Rialaig Arts Centre.
